I think most plasma screens had them, back in the day, before they became affordable. I nice little box with all the jacks on it, the remote sensor...probably a LED readout, and only one little cord connecting the media box to the actual display. Tidy, convenient and much easier access.

Now none of them seem to have them. What gives?

Between the modern HD DVR, modern receivers, players and TV's, there just isnt a need for them. They were the lone casualty of the HDMI invasion.
