You know it's slow around these parts when Watchmen opens less than 2 weeks from now and there has been no talk about the movie on these boards up until now.

I read the book over the last few weeks and I must say I was a little underwhelmed by it upon finishing it, but going back and looking stuff up about the story, what happened behind the scenes and how the book was more about how to tell the story than the story itself has made me appreciate the book even more. And whereas I was once "meh" about the movie, I am now eagerly looking forward to it. I think this could be the movie that puts Snyder up there in the upper-echelon of mainstream directors working today.

So what are everyone's thoughts so far about everything Watchmen?

This is my Dark Knight of 2009. I can't wait and from all the trailers, it's looking top shelf. My only concern is recent rumors of changes to the story and ending, we'll have to see how that turns out.

But for now, I'm walkin around with a Watchmen hard-on.

Never read it, but the movie's trailers make it look pretty cool. Plus, everybody seems to think it's the best thing since porn, so I'll probably be checking it out...

It's not that it's the best story since sliced bread, it's how the story was told. That's what has my interests peaked about the movie. Since they were so faithful to the comics, it should be an amazing film.

Becks, I highly recommened you pick up a cheap version of the graphic novel, you won't be disappointed.

From what I have heard, the changes will make sense. I rolled my eyes at the ending a few times while reading it. I can only imagine how it would come across in a movie if done the same way.

I've borrowed the set of comics from a friend to get fully prepped for the movie.  I expect nothing less than awesome.

I want to go into the movie NOT knowing the plot of the comic, actually. If I like the movie, I will likely read up on the comic. Doubt I will actually read it, though I guess it should be pretty easy to nab off The Free Store.

PS: I didn't say story, and I didn't say sliced bread. :0

I read about half of the books, saving the rest for the movie.  Really looking forward to it.

Also, in case you guys haven't seen already, Zack Snyder has said his 3 hour and 10 minute "more graphic" director's cut will be hitting in June/July.  Sounds really cool, although I know the Black Freighter will be apart of it.  Isn't that the comic that the kid on the street was reading?  That was my least favorite part of the book when those pages kept stalling the main story.

I know, I did. To me, a movie is a story, just like a comic or novel. And porn is equal to sliced bread, IMHO.

The story is just one of the many facets of a movie. Many great comedies have bad stories, tons of action movies have stories thinner than Kate Moss. A good story always improves things, but the entire worth of a film can't be judged on that one aspect, IMO.

I read about half of the books, saving the rest for the movie.  Really looking forward to it.

As I have said, I haven't read the comic...but it seems like what you are saying here makes sense. Having some meta-story take over the narrative doesn't sound like a very good idea. From what my friend tells me, the story in BF mirrors the story of one of the characters in Watchmen...but so fucking what? How does that add anything? Having it as a separate little piece makes more sense to me. Doesn't seem integral to the story. If I am missing something, it's because I can't see the whole picture just yet.

What I meant dumbass that they all start from the same framework, a story!!

Some you read, some you read with pictures... some you listen to and others you listen to with moving pictures.

Did I explain myself clear enough this time, friend?  Kiss Cheesy

I was actually more stuck on the porn being the same as sliced bread.....I've never heard of a sliced bread fetish before, but I guess it takes all kinds:)

I have no desire to see this movie, but I'm sure I'll wind up seeing it anyway.  I'll just have to find a good romantic comedy for retaliation.
