HD receiver

I have Direct tv in my house with one HD box. With my current upgrade, I'm thinking of getting an HD receiver/DVR for my TV as well.
Is it better to lease through the provider, or buy one off newegg/amazon? I can buy one for like $90. Are there any problems associated with purchasing over leasing?

The only pro to leasing is warranty. Other than that, you're throwing your money away.

I bought mine on my own. $300 for the HR-20 when it first came out. I got rebates and discounts because the thing didn't work right for a few months during Beta testing. But I would call DTV and go through the motions with them, "I'm a loyal customer, etc, etc..." I've had friends get away with murder at DTV and I got a nice hook-up myself six months ago. Basically I was paying $15 for the top package including the NFL Ticket. So I would call and see if I could squeeze a free receiver upgrade from them. It might take calling a few different times because it's so hit or miss with who answers the phone over there.
We're thinking of buying a HD TV for our bedroom and getting a second HD receiver from them too, and I am going to do the same thing. See what promotions they have, etc...
