Baltimore Orioles winning 2-1 against the Nationals on Sunday. I am there in person. George Sherrill (the closer) in to get the last 3 outs. Retires the first two batters no problem. Walks the 3rd guy and then goes 1-2 on the next batter.

The next pitch? Hit into the LF stands for a game-winning HR. O's lose.

Last night. O's winning 5-4 in the top of the 9th against the Royals. George Sherrill in to close out the game. Retires the first two batters no problem. Goes 2-2 on the next batter.

Next pitch?

Hit into the LF stands for a HR to tie the game. The Royals go on to win the game in extra innings. O's lose.

WTF???

How do you lose two games in a row like that???

I know the Orioles aren't good, but people expected them to be among the worst teams in the league. Today they're 41-40 after those two heart breaking losses, so they are still better than I expected, but losing like that -- back to back -- makes me want to kill myself.

Anyone else have some sports-related horror stories?

I've watched Philadelphia teams for years, f'it up.  Every year, one of the major sports teams (Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, 76ers) make the playoffs but they never get far, and certainly not to the big dance.  And it happens, year after year after year.  It's frustrating.  I have a feeling the Phillies will make the playoffs again this year only to screw up in the 1st round.  It's like I want to be happy they made it and then nothing comes out of it.  Ever.

Philly has the longest drought of any city with the 4 major professional sports teams. It goes back to 1980, the last time the Phillies won the WS.

Anyway, I think the Phils have a shot to go far this year... if they can hold off the Cubs, Cards and Marlins.

Baseball, seriously?  152 games?  REALLY?

How awful is it to have your team out of playoff contention by the All-Star break?

I call bullshit.  Change the schedule.  80 games should do it.

Yeap, 1980.  That was when I became a Phillies fan.  Damn Mike Schmidt & Steve Carlton for being my heroes growing up (besides my dad of course).   ;)There is a great book by Joe Queenan called The Tragic Inner Life of Sports Fans.  He is a philly sports fan but it can appeal to anybody who has suffered as a fan of sports.  But it speaks so many truths about cheering for a team, it's not funny.

It's a 162 games. Cheesy

Anyway, it's America's pastime so it's good to have a game on 6 nights of the week.

And the Orioles, despite those two horrible losses, are still hanging around. They've won their last 2 games. I dont expect them to make the playoffs or anything, but after being perennial shit-eaters for the last 10 years it's nice to see them winning more often than they lose.

HAHA!  Guess I should fact check before posting.

I was a Tigers fan growing up, but realized in my late teens that it felt horrible to have the season basically over by mid-season.  It really needs to be shortened.

I really wished the Orioles played in a different division.
