I just re-read my post in this thread about the LOTR trilogy. Since then I watched the movies again, and I think I even started a thread about how great the movies were/are. And ROTK... wow... just WOW!

A 3.5 hour of eyegasm/eargasm goodness!

Man, as I saw this thread and started to think about it, I don't think I have watched ROTK since the theatres.  When I bought the EE, I may have watched some, but I don't think I finished it.  I'm going to have to watch it, in its extended glory, soon.

......and I can't just watch the last one...that would be just wrong......

Its marathon time fellas!

My wife and I have once again started to watch through the LOTR Trilogy.  We just finished Two Towers last night, and have been watching 1 disc per evening since Sunday.  It's a great way to tackle such a lengthy series, and we'll have ROTK done on Friday night.

Others that I've recently dusted off:
The Sting
Futurama (random episodes)
Beerfest
Old School

'Tis the season to dig up old threads!

Anyone pull any random dusty cases off the shelves for a viewing recently?

Recently watched some past gems. Namely Short Circuit 1 and 2, which I found to be still pretty entertaining movies. Monster Squad, as well since it was 5 bucks at Best Buy one day. Not a great movie, IMO but decent.

Monster Squad holds up very well I thought, in that feel good cheesy vibe.  There is no better Wolfman.

And Wolfman does, in fact, have nards.

Surprising to hear that Short Circuit(s) hold up well.  Especially after the greatness that was Wall•E.

I'm looking to revisit some John Carpenter classics this week, Assault On Precinct 13 topping the list.  Big Trouble In Little China will be must over the holidays.

Assault original is awesome, the remake is okay.  Big Trouble can't go wrong with that one.  They Live and The Fog (original) is probably worth of inclusion in there too  Grin

AOP13 is an underrated classic, IMO. Better than Escape from NY by a favor of two at least.

Wall*E, eh? I got the BD from BBOnline sitting on front of my PS3. But I am not very hyped to watch it. Looks pretty kiddified and obnoxious. Maybe I will force myself to watch it tonight. Maybe not. It'll depend on my mood when the time comes.

Picked up Starship Troopers cheap on BR and was not overly impressed with the transfer, but I have to admit at least with hi-def, the oldies actually gain charm they look/sound so damn good.

So the original Assualt is definitely worth checking out?  I thought the remake was okay at best, had some good parts but didn't really leave an impression.

I haven't seen the remake, and I hope it wouldn't sully the experience of watching the original.  Being a John Carpenter fan, I'm slightly biased, but I was hooked for the duration of the film.  It really is a gripping story, realistically set, and brutally told.  Gritty indeed, with a minimal yet effective soundtrack, I'd say it's a must watch.  And it can probably be found on the cheap, or rentable if you've got a niche movie store nearby.

I saw AoP13 when I was a kid, on TV... wasn't censored as much as you might think. Anyway, I saw the remake, and it was good and all, but the original is much more omniscent and tense.
