At 120 bucks, these are a steal.

If I were filthy rich, I'd try these:

Holy smokes!
Those look like something out of the 50s or something. I wouldn't buy them, even if I was filthy rich.

Worst reason not to buy something, ever.

I'm not really interested in the noise-cancelling feature, so my question is, can I get better sound for less?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these. They sound fine. OK, they don't cancel any noise, but unless you live in a meat packing plant...who gives a fuck?

For a guy who bitches about poor TV-on-DVD transfers, I'd think it would be easy to understand an interest in quality. I'm sure if you listened to those Wal-mart headphones back-to-back with, say, the $80 Grado SR80, you'd hear a big difference.
Quality sound improves the movie viewing experience, same as good picture.

Not for beckmen, he doesn't care about audio quality.

It doesn't matter if the girl sounds like Fran Drescher, as long as she looks like Jennifer Aniston, Beckmen'll do her.
Who am I kidding, so would I.

Aural.
I don't get how you can not care about audio, but fair enough.
Cleve, nice analogy.

I care about audio, I just don't have ridiculously high standards.

Update: I went with the Sennheiser HD555s, which I got for $99 from jr.com.

They sound great, and they're very comfortable.
