This is true. Weakness has gotten the best of me before, and will get the best of me again. Why else would I have brought such titles as Clear and Present Danger, American History X, and Stargate?

I'm guilty for Stargate too, and Stir of Echoes, and just about any other $10 title that I already own and liked (and at least kept most if not all of the special features). I've only been able to escape a couple of $10 titles so far (that I really liked), Robocop (still can't replace my Criterion) & Punisher (Thomas Jane version, doesn't include the extended cut). *That auction pile keeps growing larger and larger*

The transfer on Robocop Criterion is disgusting, but it being "unrated" makes it worth keeping.

The transfer is to be desired, but the extras and the unrated cut is what keeps it in my collection time and time again.

The MGM BD is Unrated as well, though.
The main difference is that the BD frames the movie in 1.85:1, while the Criterion is in 1.66:1. That, and the BD is feature-less, but I don't understand why you wouldn't just hold onto your older DVDs in these cases. Have the BD when you want to watch the movie, and the DVDs when you want to watch some features.

Agreed. The amount of money you'd get for your old DVD's makes it more worthwhile to keep, if only for the features.

Indeed I am tempted by Gladiator but all the reviews concerning it have me worried do I hold off hoping for the re-release?

What say you, Freak, how is Gladiator's visual fidelity?

Braveheart is the clear winner between the two, but Gladiator isn't a total mess. There is still a decent upgrade from previous DVD releases, but Braveheart does make it look second rate... but I would almost consider Braveheart reference... almost.
