Title: NFL
Post by: BelmontATO on Dec 29, 2006, 02:53:02 PM
I'll be at the Cowboys v. Lions game in Dallas on Sunday. Supposedly we have some pretty good tickets, so I'm really looking forward to it. For those watching on TV, I should be fairly easy to spot as I will be wearing a #27 Eddie George jersey. Leave it to me to wear an obscure jersey of a guy who played for the team part-time for one year.

My condolences on the loss to the ratty-tatty Lions. Also, my condolences for being stuck with Terrell Owens!

Do you think they'll be able to hold it together for the playoffs?

Well I'm superglad the Eagles made the playoffs and even were crowned division champs.  To be honest, they are the #2 team in the NFC and Chicago is too darn erratic right now.  (I ain't buying the Saints no matter how much everybody else is).  It will be interesting to see if they can turn the corner and make a superbowl berth.

No... but hey, it's the playoffs, anything can happen.

On a side note...

I vote Champ Bailey as Defensive Player of the year. ;D

The Cowboys will definitely lose next week in Seattle, and be out of the playoffs. They sucked on Sunday.

The game, however, was a blast. We had seats on the 40-yard line, 40 rows up. It was an excellent place to be, and I got to see T.O. do the Hokey Pokey in person.

My Ravens have the bye and I couldn't be more excited. It will be a tough run through the playoffs for them, but if they can make it through Indy and SD, which are the 2 teams I think we'll play, then I think we can win it all, as the NFC is definitely weaker than the AFC.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: zenje on Jan 04, 2007, 12:32:37 PM
I think the Ravens have a better chance at Indy this year. I do hope they get to play SD... that will be quite a match up!  :)

In other news...

Quote
LaDainian Tomlinson Voted AP's NFL MVP

NEW YORK (AP) - Record-setting LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers ran away with The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award Thursday the way he eluded defenders in leading his team to the AFC's best record (14-2) and a favorite's role for the Super Bowl.

``When you're MVP of the league, it's a great accomplishment,'' Tomlinson said, adding the honor means ``that I've had a great year, that's all, on a great team.''

But with so much more on the horizon, he hopes.

``I would feel so much better about winning if we win the Super Bowl. It would feel like it would be everything,'' Tomlinson said.
As expected.

Indy will have to come to Baltimore!!!

Title: Re: NFL

Dallas vs Seattle... What a game.. what a game. Its funny, coz the first half was really boring. But the fourth quarter was just exciting stuff! Upto the very last second. Well played on both sides and Romo tries his best, but couldn't make it.

Since I'm not too familiar with the NFC, here's my predictions for the AFC, upto the championships;

Colts lose at Ravens next week
Patriots lose at Chargers.

Then the match up I can't wait to watch - Ravens @ Chargers for the AFC Championships!

I am so disappointed with the Cowboys...
Don't be. They are set up to do better things next season. Not many rookie QBs get to win the Superbowl. The Steelers were an anomaly last year, and look where there are now.

Thanks Mirage.  ;D

I'll go out on a limb and predict the NFC playoffs;

Seattle lose @ Chicago
Philly win @ Saints (this one's just me playing devil's advocate)

I'm guessing Indy and the Bears.  And it will be the worst Super Bowl in history.

My condolences, but at some point it seemed to me that the defense switched teams!

I picked Baltimore to win it all, so I'm keeping my mouth shut from here on out.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: zenje on Jan 14, 2007, 08:02:24 PM
I'm not! And I picked Chicago, the other 3 games I was all wrong. But here's the thing, the Bears/Seahawks game sucked ass. Is it me?.. or do NFC games just generally suck?

The Patriots/Chargers game was AWESOME! Even though I picked the Chargers, I was rooting for Tom Brady and company... and man, they were hopeless in the first half. But they sure stepped up in the end. ;D Poor Martin Shottenheimer... still got the curse of the post season. :D

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Justin Cleveland on Jan 15, 2007, 06:29:06 AM
Regardless (and I apologize to Mirage) but all four games this weekend were simply amazing.  I, too, wanted to see the Chargers against Indy this week.

But, being at a playoff game when your team loses a heartbreaker is the worst feeling in the world.  I was at Lambeau when the Falcons beat the Packers a few years back.  It's like a gut punch.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: BelmontATO on Jan 15, 2007, 08:34:58 AM
I absolutely hate the Patriots, but I am really excited to see them match up against the Colts in the AFC Championship again. Peyton may want to consider throwing some touchdown passes next week. You know, just to shake things up.

Bah, scoring is over-rated.  The NFL is all about Defense these days!  It didn't matter that he was putting up 30 per game, the Defense sucked.  They have a Defense now, according to Sean Salisbury Steak, so he doesn't have to score!

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: zenje on Jan 22, 2007, 01:49:49 PM
Well, JC called it! Its the Colts and the Bears for the Superbowl! ;D

The NFC championship game was good, but it was nothing compared to the AFC championship. Wow! Unbelievable, when Colts were trailing at 21-3 at the first half to come back and beat the unbeatable. I was really happy for Dungy and Manning to go through to the superbowl. They deserve it all the way. I'm also glad that for the first time an African-American coach gets to not only go to the superbowl, but win it as well.

I'm rooting for the Colts.

Oh, and Bill Parcells quits the Cowboys, and coaching altogether, didn't think he'd leave this year.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Justin Cleveland on Jan 23, 2007, 05:35:07 PM
I'm really shocked by Parcell's decision, but I agree that it's time to hang it up.  He has looked haggard this last year.

And leave it to TO to go ahead and be a complete tool.

Thanks for the props, Z.  I'm the f-cking man!

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: zenje on Feb 04, 2007, 11:17:56 PM
Well, the Colts take it, and they deserve it. The game wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped, even though I was rooting for Dungy and company. But good for them. IMO the AFC championship game was the best game of the season.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Justin Cleveland on Feb 05, 2007, 06:27:24 AM
There was just no way the Super Bowl could live up to the standards set by the previous three weeks of playoffs which, in a word, were amazing.  But the game was decent.

I also am VERY blessed to have attended the 2 best games of my life this year - Sept 25th versus Atlanta in New Orleans (the return to the Superdome) and the Divisional Playoff win versus Philly. What a ride this season was :)

Look forward to chatting it up about 07 soon!!

Hey Mirage,

Did you watch the Patriots/Ravens game yesterday? In my universe, the Ravens won that game.

I'm not sure if I've ever hated a team before than the way I hate the patriots now.

Title: Re: NFL

In every universe the Ravens won that game.  It was gift-wrapped by the officials for the Patriots.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Mirage52 on Dec 04, 2007, 01:02:35 PM
Glad to hear some non-Ravens fans venting about the officiating. It was downright horrible but the Ravens also shot themselves in the foot a few times too.

I was at the game and I was expecting a blowout so when the Ravens hung around, I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. The Ravens find ways to lose this season, thats just the way their season is going. So when we lost like that, I wish we would have just been blowout so I could have left at halftime. What a disappointment.

I hope the Pats go undefeated in the regular season and then get beaten by the Colts in NE. That is the best scenario right now.

Oh yeah, specifically the last so-called "touchdown". I kept shouting, these refs have been paid off! Bastards!

I think the "Time out" at 4th down was the worst. It showed they had no confidence in their defence that had done so well.

Me too. But it would be some show if they lost to the Dolphins! ;D

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Mirage52 on Dec 05, 2007, 08:50:41 AM
I could tell the TD was incomplete on the jumbro-tron in the upper deck. I think someone was definitely in the refs ear piece when they were reviewing the play at the instant reply booth telling them to keep the call the way it was. The NFL wants the Pats to go undefeated in the worst way.

The TO would have been well placed if they hadn't already stopped them! Just bad timing, but again, another way the Ravens have found a way to lose this season.

So how is everyone's football season going?

The Bucs are doing fairly well, so I should be able to get a playoff game from them....and the Texans are of course doing what they do, and keep my expectations in check every week.

In case anyone wants to know, I'm a Vikings fan.
Unfortunately I live in Tampa and was at their loss last weekend.
We need a real Coach. Chilly is in way over his head.
Honestly the reason I wanted to go (And mom supplied tix as a birthday present back in June) was to see All Day run. I want to be able to say I saw the kid run, just once.
Anyway... that's my NFL 2 cents.

Heh, Eagles fan here.  McNabb is trash this year and the team is destined for the cellar this year.  At least the Phillies won the series, can't take that away from me  ;D

Title: Re: NFL

LOL Kedrix. I was at the Ravens/Eagles game and the Philly fans just didn't know what to do. They couldn't trash talk so they started fights. Typical Philly fans. I know you're one of the good ones, Ked, but I have to admit, I loved that the Ravens pushed the Eagles sh!t in and effectively ended McNabb's run in Philly. He'll go somewhere like Minnesota and Chicago and be a good QB again once he has a RB to hand off to 30+ times a game.

Looks like Andy Reid's as good as gone too.

GO RAVENS!

Hey Kedrix,
Eagles are my second team.
I was born and raised in the Philly area so grew up with them.
It was bittersweet in the World Series. I live in Tampa now but have a lot of love for the Phils.
My grandpop took me to a ton of games at The Vet.
I'm still a huge Mike Scmidt fan. Best 3rd Baseman to ever play the game.
I was there during the 1980 Championship and the 1970's runs of The Flyers and later 76'ers.

Gino

What, you mean Scott Rolen isn't the best 3rd basemen in history? LOL

I was at a O's/Phillies game at the Vet before it met its deserved demise and during the game Rolen did something the Philly fans didn't like... struck out, walked, only got a single or something like that, and the Philly fans booed the crap out of him. Then he wins the game in extra innings. What do Philly fans do? Cheer him like he's the reincarnation of Mike Schmidt.

Don't get me wrong, I love Philly. The city. The fans? That's another issue. I love their passion and I like that they don't take crap from any of their teams or players, regardless of if the player is a star or not, but they are the biggest fairweather fans in the country.

Oh, and they booed Santa.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Kedrix on Nov 26, 2008, 08:39:46 AM
I would boo Santa, he didn't bring me a pony last year.  Seriously though, they booed Destiny's Child at an NBA All-Star game just because I think one of the girls was wearing a laker jersey.  They're hot (and can sing).  Most Philly fans (myself nor Gino included) are pretty wacked out.  I've been a loyal fan since I was 5 years old for the Phillies and the Flyers (hockey).  Eagles and 76ers I am an okay fan of but not hardset.  Mike Schmidt is awesome, best 3rd baseman ever for sure.  I wish I had gotten to go to the Vet one last time.  Rolen wasn't bad, but let's face it; he couldn't shine Schmidt's shoes.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Kedrix on Nov 26, 2008, 03:36:24 PM
Sure...he's an alright guy.  I appreciate the hard work he put into Philly and he take them to a Super Bowl and many playoff appearances.  I don't usually boo the guy when they go to another team.  Well except for Allen Iverson...I was so glad when he left the 76ers even if they stunk to high heck afterwards.  He's a virus.  But Barkley is another good example, I stuck with him in Phoenix and Houston after he left the 76ers, he was soooo fun to watch.

God, I hate the Eagles.  But that is neither here nor there.
Vikings are a team I can root for, unless they are playing one of my favorites, but because basically my own family is from Minnesota so I got some ties to the team.  Too bad they just can't seem to get it together.

Man you are right on.
Chilly has just got to go.
He's in way over his head.
I was at the Tampa game here and saw at least 2 bonehead coaching moves that cost the tream the game.
It was sure nice to see A.P. run, though.
We need a new coach, and now.

No doubt, this playoff series is just bizaare.  I realize there's a couple of you that have greater stakes in it than I.........and am sure you are estatic, so I'm happy for you.

I'm just trying to decide who to root for, as I never miss a Super Bowl even if its one I don't exactly care about.  Its gotta be AFC as the Eagles and Cardinals I have exactly zero interest in.  I'll watch a good game in the Steelers and Ravens this weekend, and root for whoever wins that one.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Mirage52 on Jan 13, 2009, 09:14:50 AM
It's really bizarre on the NFC side. ARZ is all the sudden solid defensively and the Eagles... man I thought we put the final nail in their coffin when we beat them earlier in the year.

I think it's shaped up the way it should have on the AFC side. The Titans were overrated all year and the Chargers own the Colts and Peyton Manning continues to be unimpressive in the playoffs.

Title: Re: NFL
Post by: Mirage52 on Jan 19, 2009, 11:22:42 AM
...at least it's not going to be an all Pennsylvania Super Bowl.

Anyway, I kinda expected the Ravens to lose, so I wasn't bummed about losing, but it still sucks to lose to the friggin' Steelers.

Go Cardinals!

All I know is it will be one heck of a party week here in Tampa.
I'll be pulling for the Cards.
No reason except that it's new blood.
Steelers have always been one of those dirty unsportsmanlike clubs.
One of only 4 teams I can never root for: Cowboys, Raiders, Steelers, and Bucs (yes, I live in Tampa)

Yeah I'll throw my hat in the ring for the Cards too.  Kurt Warner is a nice Superbowl story.  Still wish the Eagles went, but Arizona was clearly the better team this time around.
